Our Programme

A Montessori journey from Infancy to Upper Elementary, transitioning into High School: Montessori learning is designed to follow a child’s developmental milestones. Our curriculum therefore aligns with the characteristics of each age group. The development of the ‘whole’ child is important - physically, sensorially, emotionally, intellectually; as an individual and as a member of a community. Our child-centred programme offers creative choices and enables each child to work according to readiness and ability.

Head Start believes strongly in the philosophy of Maria Montessori who genuinely loved and respected the Child. She used the phrase ‘House of Children’ rather than the word ‘School’ as it becomes a home away from home. Each child becomes a member of a small community in a specially prepared environment. Every environment has a mixed age group of children. Children spontaneously share, learn from each other and develop cooperative social interaction, which brings about confidence, respect for others, appreciation of individual differences and joy in helping each other.

15 months to 3 years
Infancy Programme
When children join our Infancy programme they are eased into a home away from home with friendly educators. The focus is on self-sufficiency, strengthening of gross and fine motor skills and the opportunity to engage with multiple activities that appeal to the senses. This programme is integrally related to skills required for independence in our day to day lives, which young children intuitively crave. The principle followed is ‘learning by doing’.
Sessions run from Monday to Friday

Pre-Primary Programme
Around the age of 2 1/2 to 3 years, children transition from our Infancy programme to the Pre-Primary environment. Commensurate with their growing developmental needs, there are plenty of opportunities for further sensorial development, physical coordination, enrichment of vocabulary and communication skills, and a deeper understanding of numerical concepts.

Ages 6-12
Lower Elementary: 6 to 9 years (Grades 1, 2, 3)
Upper Elementary: 9 to 12 years (Grades 4, 5, 6)
Close to the age of six, children are ready to stretch beyond the environment they know, and expand their horizons. They form a wider circle of friends, eager to exchange ideas. They have vivid imaginations, a voracious appetite for facts, and a desire to assert their claim for mental independence. Children of mixed-aged groups work on different concepts, unlike in a traditional classroom where every child is doing the same thing. Through the exchange of ideas and their own varied interests, they learn from each other and collaborate.
Sessions run from Monday to Friday
7.45 am to 3.15 pm

Beyond Elementary
Head Start Montessori Whitefield has grown organically and continues to do so. The essence of Montessori pedagogy and philosophy remains a strong guiding factor while our children prepare for higher grades leading to the Cambridge IGCSE Examination in Grade 10.
The Living Classroom
Whether in a forest or open field, learning happens, and enriches all that we absorb in the indoor environment. The ‘living classroom’ is an integral part of our curriculum.
